About 2 years ago I was tipping the scales at almost 190 lbs when reality hit me – if I kept going down this road, 200 lbs was just around the corner – did I mention it would be on a 5’3 frame? I was caught in a downward spiral of emotional eating and self loathing. I had always been an extremely athletic adolescent and needed to regain my zest, energy and passion to live my best life.

I started exercising more often and making some healthier choices and slowly saw some encouraging progress. However, it wasn’t until September 2011 that I decided to get serious and take responsibility for my choices. I really started watching what I was putting in my body and how it made me feel. My focus shifted from a short term goal of trying to get skinny quick to look good in a bikini to living a healthy life. Each good choice I made was cementing positive habits toward an overall healthy lifestyle change. I discovered what foods caused pain and discomfort and those that gave me unlimited energy. I learned to listen to my body and gained a new awareness.

So far I have lost 40 lbs on my own and really love the shape I am in. I have definitely regained my health and am finally in a healthy weight category for my height. I have an abundance of energy from the nutritious food I chose to fuel my body with and have seen my strength and cardio endurance sky rocket. With the incredible progress I’ve made I decided to take my training to the next level. I recently started training for my very first fitness competition!

If you are someone who has struggled with a weight battle and just felt like nothing seems to work, the biggest piece of advice I can give you is BE CONSISTENT. We are what we repeatedly do. If you slip up, become aware of where you went wrong, brush it off and move on.

Check out my newest blog about health and fitness http://letsliftheavythings.wordpress.com/ for my continuing progress as I get closer to the competition date.

I am grateful for my health and resilient body.
